Ann Arbor Chiropractor and Ypsilanti Chiropractor Discusses How Children Should Wear Their Backpacks
It seems like as the years go by, our children’s backpacks get larger and larger. Technological innovations have helped with this, however, our children are often carrying a large load on their small bodies. Children are growing and this added stress might contribute to back pain in the future or presently. Therefore it is important for your child to use a back pain that works best for them. Your Ann Arbor chiropractor and Ypsilanti chiropractor can help you teach your child the best way to wear a backpack.
What Backpack is the Best
There is no backpack that is the absolute best, however there are some that are better than others. If your child has a fairly significant load they need to carry, it is best if they can have a rolly bag. If a rolly bag is not an option for you or if your child does not want to use a rolly bag, it is important to select a backpack with two padded shoulder straps. Ideally the backpack should have a third strap that goes around the waist. This allows for more weight to be carried on the child’s hips instead of their shoulders. The backpack should have wider straps to help with weight distribution.
How to Pack your Backpack
The backpack should never be more than 15% of your child’s total weight. However, this might not always be possible. Pack the heaviest items of the back pack closest to their body. The straps should be tightened enough that the child feels that their shoulders are resting comfortably. Often, the straps of the backpack are too loose and the backpack will cause the child to bend forward to support the weight.
